Mr. Darchiashvili is a Member of the United National Movement Parliamentary Faction, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security, a Member of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration.

In 1992-2002 he was a Research Fellow at the Faculty of History of the Tbilisi State University, in 2000-2003 he was the Head of the Research Department of the Parliament of Georgia, in 2004-2008 Mr. Darchiashvili was the Executive Director of the Open Society Georgia Foundation, in 2008-2012 he was the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration.

Release

On 4 May, 2013, the Hayartun Center organized a meeting with Mr. David Darchiashvili, Member of the United National Movement Parliamentary Faction, Deputy Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security, Member of Parliamentary Committee on European Integration. Mr. Darchiashvili spoke about political developments focusing on state policies related to national minorities in Georgia. He referred to a number of laws and international agreements ratified by the Georgian Parliament related to national/ethnic minorities. At the event, Mr. Darchiashvili discussed the prospects for recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Georgian authorities, restitution of Armenian churches to the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, the issues around minority schools in the country, low representation of the Georgian citizens of Armenian background in public offices. Mr. Darchiashvili also focused on developments regarding a political parliamentary minority.
